Band Number 1

These bands will appear in no particular order over the next eight posts. I hope I don't bore you all, but peak your interest and understanding in this style of music a little bit better. Now on with the show.

Tourniquet

Their name comes from the following.

* a surgical device for arresting hemorrhage by compression of a blood vessel...

* a lifelong spiritual process by which a personal God, through the atoning blood, death, and resurrection of His only Son -Jesus Christ- can begin to stop the flow of going through life without knowing and serving our Creator. HE IS OUR TOURNIQUET
The band, from Los Angeles, formed in 1990 and are still going strong. Their musical influence comes from the classical music masters of the past. Beethoven meets Frankenstein as their web site so eloquently puts it. Upon listening to the band one can tell that they write metal just like someone would compose classical music; very complex and rhythmic.

A few other things of note are that the drummer, Ted Kirkpatrick was named favorite drummer by HM Magazine for 10 straight years, 1990 though 2000 then again in 2003. Now here is a list of their art and a few songs of note. You can listen to a snip it on their website under discography, or do some searching to find the full songs, or CD's.

Stop The Bleeding (1990/2001)
There are three songs of note from this album.
The Test for Leprosy
Ark of Suffering
(Song about animal rights)
Tears of Korah

Psychosurgey (1991/2001)
The full CD is great, but pay close attention to the following.
A Dog's Breakfast (Read the lyrics if nothing else)
Viento Borrascoso (Fantastic Instrumental)

Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance (1992/2001)
One of their greatest albums. Songs of note (too hard to choose but these two are my favorite)
Theodicy on Trial
The Skeezix Dilemma
(Song about child abuse)

Tourniquet Recorded Live (1993)
Live Studio Recording. Not one of their best.

Vanishing Lessons (1994)
Yet another great album (again too hard to choose highlights)
Bearing Gruesome Cargo
Acid Head
K517
(Drum solo with classical music in the background)

Carry the Wounded (1995)
Good album, very different. Shows off their softer side. Kimmy's favorite album.
When the Love is Right (Song was used in our wedding)

The Collected Works (1996)
Best Of collection for those that just want to get their toes wet.
Two new songs
Perfect Night for a Hanging
The Hand Trembler

Crawl to China (1997)
This recording was the first and only release on Benson records. This once again is a great album. (I'm a broken record aren't I?) Pay attention to these songs.
The Tell-Tale Heart (Yes it's the Poe story)
If Pigs Could Fly
White Knucklin' The Rosary

Acoustic Archives (1998)
Their only independent release, and as the title suggests, it is a collection of their best songs done acoustically. There is also one heavy song, which is the direction the band will take on the next two recordings. Good one for those who would like to hear their sound, but are too old for the heaviness.

Microscopic View of a Telescopic Realm (2000)
Say that ten times fast. Fantastic album, lift your lighters and bang your heads. It's also hard to pick songs to highlight from this album, but here are some fun ones.
Besprinkled in Scarlett Horror
Erratic Palpitations of the Human Spirit
The Skeezix Dilemma Part II (The Improbable Testimony of the Pipisisewah)

Where Moth and Rust Destroy (2003)
Their latest release, but not their best effort. Something of note though is that most of the guitar is played by former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.
Restoring the Locust Years
Drawn and Quartered

Well, that about wraps this very long post up, and I do encourage you to look at their site for more insight into the band. Enjoy and rock on!!!

Dangit. I just said I wasn't going to buy any cd's for a while and now I got a hankering for some Tourniquet.

Great review Kevin. Very detailed. And I seriously want to go buy some Tourniquent.

Sorry Sam I did not mean to make you spend money, but investing in Tourniquet is well worth it.
